Shakila

Fifteen years of faces.

Makeup artist, brow specialist and teacher. Afghan, from Melbourne's south-east, and the person a family trusts with its whole wedding week.

She started with brows and makeup, and the brides followed. More than fifteen years on, she still does every bridal face herself.

Clients know her for a base that matches every skin tone, for taking her time, and for an eye that reads on camera without looking heavy in the room. Brides from the Afghan, Pakistani, Arabic, Persian and Indian communities across Melbourne come to her because she knows how a headpiece has to be pinned to last a long night, and how a red lip should sit against a red dress. Dari and Farsi are spoken in the room, alongside English.

Some clients have been coming for more than six years. In June 2025 she moved the lounge into a new space at Amberly Park in Narre Warren South, with arched mirrors, chandeliers and room for a whole bridal party to get ready together.

She teaches, too. Her three-day hairstyling class and two-day makeup class run in the lounge on live models, and students have travelled from Brisbane and Adelaide for them. Melbourne's modest bridal houses, Sahar Modesty, Sadeqi Couture and Grand Boutique among them, book her for their campaigns.

In April 2024 she did hair and makeup for the singer Aryana Sayeed's Melbourne concert. In August 2026 she got the author Kbora Ali ready for the launch of her book. Most mornings, though, it is a bride, her sisters and her mother, a pot of tea, and the chairs turned to face the mirrors.

The team

Five chairs, five people. The names come from the reviews clients leave on Google, where they thank each of them by name.
